Garza and her husband were among the first to reach the scene. Her husband dashed across the median to assist those trapped inside, while Garza worked to pry open the plane’s windshield. “They were banging on the windshield and trying to get out the door, but it was too heavy,” she recounted. The combined efforts of law enforcement and onlookers eventually allowed the door to be pushed open, revealing desperate calls for help from the trapped passengers.

Authorities confirmed that the crash resulted in one fatality, Josh Baer, a prominent figure in Austin’s tech and startup ecosystem. The flight data showed a steady, controlled descent toward the airport until the signal cut out around 600 feet above the ground, roughly 2.5 miles short of the runway. “The plane lost contact with air traffic controllers before it crashed on the highway,” Sanchez noted in a statement to KGNS.
