Savannah Guthrie visits ‘TODAY’ studio as she plans to eventually return to show
Savannah Guthrie’s Return to ‘TODAY’ Studio Amid Ongoing Search for Mother
On Thursday, Savannah Guthrie, co-anchor of the NBC morning show ‘TODAY,’ made a brief appearance at the studio, marking her first visit since her mother’s disappearance entered its 32nd day. The visit, which was not broadcast, allowed her to reconnect with colleagues and express gratitude for their support during this difficult time.
Nancy Guthrie’s Vanishing
Nancy Guthrie, 84, was last seen on Feb. 1 after dinner at her daughter Annie’s home in Tucson, Arizona. She had not attended a scheduled online church service at a friend’s residence that evening, prompting authorities to launch an investigation. The case is now being considered as a potential kidnapping or abduction, though evidence remains limited.
“She said that she has the intention to return to the show, even though it feels like the hardest thing to do, it’s also her home and where she feels so loved,” stated Jenna Bush Hager, who shared a heartfelt moment with Guthrie during the day’s broadcast.
Jenna Bush Hager, a co-host on the third hour of ‘TODAY,’ expressed emotional support for Guthrie’s decision to return to the air. “We’re not out of the storm, but there’s a light somewhere even in the midst of the storm,” added Sheinelle Jones, who also welcomed Guthrie with warmth. Jones reassured her that the team would be ready to support her whenever she felt prepared.
“Whenever you are ready, we are here,” Jones told Guthrie during the visit, as she embraced the co-anchor and wiped away tears.
Photographs from outside the ‘TODAY’ studio captured Guthrie’s emotional state, showing her visibly moved and close with colleagues. The Guthrie family has offered a $1 million reward for any information leading to their mother’s recovery. On Feb. 24, Savannah Guthrie noted that while her family remains hopeful, they are also aware of the possibility that Nancy may be lost or already gone.
Investigators revealed that the FBI recovered footage of an armed and masked individual outside the family’s home on the morning of Nancy’s disappearance. This person is now regarded as a key suspect, though their identity has not been disclosed. The suspect is described as a male between 5 feet 9 inches and 5 feet 10 inches tall, with an average build, and was seen wearing a black, 25-liter Ozark Trail Hiker Pack backpack.
Senior reporter Daniel Arkin of NBC News provided updates on the case, highlighting the ongoing efforts to locate Nancy Guthrie.
