Savannah Guthrie returns to NBC’s Today show, as search for mother continues

Savannah Guthrie has resumed her role at NBC’s Today show on Monday, marking her first studio appearance since January 30. The date coincides with the day her 84-year-old mother, Nancy, was reported missing. Guthrie had previously stepped away from her duties following the disappearance, including a temporary hiatus from covering the Winter Olympics for the network.

Investigators suspect Nancy Guthrie was abducted from her home in Tucson, Arizona, but have yet to reveal a clear motive or apprehend a suspect. The family announced a $1 million reward for information leading to her recovery, emphasizing the urgency of the search. Guthrie, who described her return to work as “part of my purpose right now,” expressed her commitment to her family despite the uncertainty surrounding her mother’s fate.

“I still believe. And so I say with conviction, ‘Happy Easter,'” Guthrie stated in a closing message during an Easter Sunday service at Good Shepherd New York. The video, shared on Easter Sunday, highlighted her steadfast faith amid the personal turmoil.

The mother’s disappearance began when she failed to show up at a friend’s house to attend a virtual Sunday service the morning after being dropped off by relatives on January 31. Nancy Guthrie was also missing her medications at the time of her vanishing, adding to the concerns of her family. Guthrie’s return to the Today show underscores her determination to balance professional responsibilities with the ongoing search for her missing mother.
