Man who threw girlfriend from tower block jailed
Details of the case and victim’s account
A 22-year-old man from Solihull has received a five-year prison sentence after hurling his girlfriend from a tower block’s fourth floor. Jordan Herring was convicted of wounding during a trial at Birmingham Crown Court. His actions left the 18-year-old victim, Bobbie Goodman, with severe injuries, including a collapsed lung and fractures to her pelvis, spine, and ribs.
“It was very dehumanising,” Goodman told the BBC. “I couldn’t move, couldn’t walk, couldn’t wash myself. I really thought I might never walk again.”
Goodman expressed deep resentment toward Herring, stating: “I have a lot of hatred for this man. He’s ruined my life in so many ways. He’s made me not want to trust another man ever again. But I hope someday, I will.”
Incident and emergency response
The fall occurred in November 2022 at Merton House in Chelmsley Wood, Solihull. Jurors were informed that Herring’s mother had made a frantic 999 call shortly after the incident, describing her fear that her son might harm the victim with a knife. The emergency services arrived over an hour later, following the attack.
“I couldn’t call the ambulance… I should’ve done it ages ago but he’s my son,” Kerrie-Anne Grogan, Herring’s mother, said. “I’m scared he’s gonna get a knife and kill her.”
Previous convictions and trial details
Before this incident, Herring had been convicted of coercive and controlling behavior directed at the same individual. During the trial, he claimed the relationship was “toxic” and that an argument about cheating triggered the event. Officers highlighted their ongoing support for Goodman and praised her courage in recounting the abuse she endured.
Herring, from Lark Meadow Drive, was sentenced on Monday for a combined total of five years for both wounding and coercive behavior charges.
