Guthrie case investigators question neighbors about any internet issues on the night she disappeared

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department and FBI conducted door-to-door inquiries in Nancy Guthrie’s Tucson neighborhood, seeking information from residents about potential disruptions to their internet service on the night of her disappearance. Law enforcement teams visited homes in the Catalina Foothills, asking about connectivity problems that could have been relevant to the search for the 84-year-old mother of TODAY co-anchor Savannah Guthrie.

Several homeowners reported that investigators specifically inquired about internet glitches during the critical timeframe. One couple adjacent to Guthrie’s residence mentioned noticing an issue with one of their Ring cameras on the night she vanished. While their other cameras functioned normally, the one closest to her home displayed a “not available” warning when they checked footage from the overnight hours. This anomaly was unfamiliar to them and seemed coincidental.

“That’s really weird, isn’t it?” the couple said, emphasizing the strange timing of the camera malfunction.

Authorities have not confirmed if the internet issues are linked to the investigation, though they remain a focus of inquiry. Some homeowners who spoke to NBC News on Thursday were away or asleep during the abduction, leaving them unable to comment on their own connectivity. The FBI released images of an armed, masked suspect wearing gloves and a black Ozark Trail Hiker Pack backpack in the early hours of January 31, when Guthrie last appeared.

Guthrie was last seen at 9:45 p.m. on January 31 after dinner with her daughter Annie. She was reported missing on February 1 when she failed to arrive at a friend’s house for a livestreamed church service. Officials describe the case as a possible kidnapping, but details remain scarce. The Guthrie family announced a $1 million reward for information leading to her recovery, joining efforts by the FBI and Crime Stoppers.

Savannah Guthrie, who has been in Arizona with her family, recently returned to New York City for a TODAY show appearance. She expressed plans to resume her duties, though her focus remains on supporting her family and aiding the search for Nancy. The FBI has not yet commented on the reported internet issues or the rationale behind the questioning.
