Four Teenagers Arrested Following Fatal Stabbing of 16-Year-Old Boy
Cambridgeshire Police reported a call just before 19:00 BST on Sunday about a teenager being attacked in Riseholme, a neighborhood near the Ortongate Shopping Centre in Peterborough. The incident led to the death of a 16-year-old boy, who succumbed to his injuries in hospital. The school, St John’s Church School, temporarily closed due to a serious event near its location, as confirmed in an email shared with the BBC.
A 15-year-old boy and an 18-year-old man, both from Peterborough, were arrested on suspicion of murder. Two additional teenagers, a 16-year-old girl and a 17-year-old girl, were detained for allegedly aiding an offender. The 16-year-old girl from March also faces charges related to possessing a sharp object. All four individuals remain in police custody.
“This tragic event has led to the death of a young man, and we are in contact with his family, keeping them informed,” said Det Ch Insp Richard Stott of the Beds, Cambs and Herts Major Crime Unit. “While the death will be a concern for the community, we do not believe the attack was random and will maintain a heightened police presence in the area for the coming days.”
An image captured the large police presence near the Ortongate Shopping Centre on Sunday night, with a cordoned-off area adjacent to the Riseholme entrance visible on Monday morning. The shopping centre remains open, though its rear car park is closed. Some flowers have been placed next to the cordon as a gesture of remembrance.
The school stated it would “continue to monitor the situation” and provide updates to parents and carers regarding the possibility of reopening. Authorities have urged anyone with information or home CCTV footage to contact police. For more Peterborough news, follow BBC Sounds, Facebook, Instagram, and X.
