Jim Carrey’s ex reveals what we missed about his ‘unrecognisable’ face

Jim Carrey’s Ex-Girlfriend Highlights What Fans Overlooked at His Unfamiliar Appearance

Jim Carrey’s former partner has addressed the intense rumors that he was swapped out by a lookalike or a masked impersonator during a recent awards event. The speculation, which suggested the actor might have undergone a dramatic transformation, sparked widespread debate among fans and conspiracy theorists. However, Jenny McCarthy, 53, who was in a five-year relationship with Carrey, has clarified that the man seen at the César Awards in February was indeed the real Jim Carrey.

Carrey, 64, was honored with an honorary accolade for his contributions to cinema and television. The speech he delivered was entirely in French, showcasing his dedication to the event. Yet, his altered appearance—marked by a fuller face, smoother skin, and a tighter jawline—led many to question his identity, with some suggesting he might have had cosmetic treatments like Botox or fillers. Others pointed to his height and eye color as clues, claiming the version of Carrey at the ceremony looked different from his usual self.

“He looked very happy at that award show. And I was happy for him,” said McCarthy, speaking to People Magazine. “That’s the first thing I noticed. I said, ‘Oh wow, Jim looks really happy.’”

McCarthy’s husband, Donnie Wahlberg, echoed her sentiment, noting that the focus on Carrey’s physical changes overshadowed the emotional aspect of the moment. “We’re so obsessed with how he looks that we didn’t consider how happy he looked,” he added. The event was not just a personal milestone for Carrey but also a family gathering, as he arrived with his daughter, grandson, and 12 close friends and relatives, creating a warm, intimate atmosphere.

The confusion reached a new level when a makeup artist, known for their elaborate transformations, posted a photo claiming to have impersonated Carrey. The image featured a mask, a makeup kit, a brunette wig, and a set of false teeth, captioned “Alexis Stone as Jim Carrey in Paris.” This fueled further speculation, with even Megan Fox chiming in, writing: “I can’t handle any more stress right now. I need to know if this is real.”

Despite the frenzy, the César Awards’ general delegate reassured fans that the situation was a “non-issue.” Gregory Caulier, the event’s organizer, highlighted Carrey’s meticulous preparation, including months of work on his French speech and his presence at the ceremony with his partner, family, and longtime publicist. “His visit has been planned since this summer,” Caulier said in an interview with Variety. “From the outset, he was extremely touched by the Academy’s invitation. Eight months of ongoing, constructive discussions… He worked on his speech in French for months, asking me about the exact pronunciation of certain words.”

Carrey had previously hinted at retiring from acting in 2022, stating he had “done enough” in his career and enjoyed a “quiet life.” Yet, he added a condition: he would only return to Hollywood if an angel presented him with a script “written in gold ink” that held significant meaning. By late 2024, he had broken that silence, rejoining the film industry for Sonic the Hedgehog 3, where he reprised his role as Dr. Robotnik. At the premiere, he told AP that the project was a “necessary step,” citing the need to “buy a lot of stuff and I need [something] to keep moving.”
