Ice Cube and ‘War of the Worlds’ top the Razzies
The 46th Razzie Awards have unveiled their list of recipients, with one film dominating the worst-of-the-worst category. The 2025 adaptation of “War of the Worlds” claimed multiple dubious accolades, including worst picture, worst remake/rip-off sequel, worst screenplay, worst director, and worst actor for Ice Cube. This year’s ceremony, held ahead of the Oscars, highlighted the film’s unenviable position on the list.
Similar to the 2005 version starring Tom Cruise, the 2025 “War of the Worlds” is based on H. G. Wells’ 1898 novel. Despite its six nominations, it missed out on the worst screen combo prize, which went to the seven CGI dwarfs in Disney’s live-action “Snow White.” The artificial septet also secured the trophy for worst supporting actor, adding to their list of cinematic missteps.
About the Razzies
Known as the Golden Raspberry Awards, the Razzies offer a humorous critique of cinema by celebrating films that fall short of excellence. As customary, the winners are revealed the day before the Academy Awards, setting the stage for a contrasting celebration of cinematic achievements.
“Known as the Razzies, take a tongue-in-cheek approach to cinema by handing out awards for those films that are, shall we say, viewed as less than stellar.”
Redeemer Award
This year’s Razzie Redeemer Award was presented to Kate Hudson for her performance in “Song Sung Blue.” The honor followed her 2021 win for worst actress in “Music,” marking a redemption of sorts for her career.
