Razzie Awards 2026: Anti-Oscars name ‘War Of The Worlds’ as Worst Picture

2026 Razzie Awards: ‘War of the Worlds’ Named Worst Picture in Annual Ceremony of Cinematic Disgrace

The Razzies: A Mirror to Hollywood’s Failures

Before the Oscars honor the cinematic triumphs of the year, the Golden Raspberry Awards—often dubbed the “Razzies”—take the stage, spotlighting the most underwhelming films. These awards, known for their irreverent humor, aim to balance the scales by recognizing cinematic missteps. This year’s 46th edition declared the Amazon-backed adaptation of H.G. Wells’ classic novel, War of the Worlds, as the year’s worst film.

It’s challenging to dispute this decision, given the film’s absurdly poor execution. The adaptation, starring Ice Cube, was criticized as a chaotic reimagining that felt like a cultural setback. The movie’s dominance at the Razzie ceremony extended beyond its lead award, as it claimed five accolades in total: Worst Picture, Worst Director (Rich Lee), Worst Actor (Ice Cube), Worst Screenplay (Kenny Golde, Marc Hyman), and Worst Prequel, Remake, Rip-Off, or Sequel.

“The Amazon-sponsored adaptation of War of the Worlds can only be viewed as a cinematic crime against humanity,” remarked a critic in the Razzie’s official commentary.

Other Notable Winners and Honorees

While War of the Worlds took center stage, several other films were recognized for their shortcomings. Disney’s reworked version of Snow White earned two Razzie awards, including Worst Supporting Actor and Worst Screen Combo, both attributed to the film’s CGI dwarfs.

Rebel Wilson was awarded Worst Actress for her action-comedy film Bride Hard, while Scarlet Rose Stallone, daughter of Sylvester Stallone, secured Worst Supporting Actress for Gunslingers. Kate Hudson received the Redeemer Award for her Oscar-nominated role in Song Sung Blue, a nod to her resilience despite previous acting nods for My Best Friend’s Girl (2008), Mother’s Day (2016), and Music (2021).
