FBI director Kash Patel hacked by pro-Iranian group as personal photos appear online
Pro-Iranian Hackers Target FBI Director Kash Patel, Expose Personal Photos Online
A hacking collective aligned with Iran has reportedly infiltrated the digital account of FBI Director Kash Patel, releasing personal photographs and confidential documents to the public. The breach, which surfaced earlier this week, included a mix of historical images and private records, many dating back over a decade.
In a message posted on Friday, the group Handala declared: ‘Kash Patel, the FBI’s current leader, who once had his name proudly displayed at the agency’s headquarters, is now among those targeted by our cyber operations.’ The group emphasized the hack as a retaliatory act against U.S. military actions.
The FBI confirmed awareness of cyber actors attempting to access Director Patel’s personal email account and stated they have implemented measures to reduce risks from this breach. The bureau added that the exposed data is historical, with no classified government information compromised.
A Department of Justice representative earlier confirmed to Reuters that the leaked content appeared genuine. Among the released images were photographs of Patel alongside an antique sports car and another capturing him with a cigar in hand. These visuals, according to the hackers, were part of a broader effort to reveal personal aspects of his life.
Handala, which also claimed responsibility this month for a recent cyber assault on Stryker, a Michigan-based medical tech firm, has been linked to multiple hacking campaigns. The Justice Department recently highlighted Handala as part of its efforts to seize four web domains connected to Iranian cyber operations.
